Webster & Horsfall Group

Founded in 1720, Webster & Horsfall Group is a family-owned business with a 300-year legacy of innovation, quality, and leadership in specialist wire and wire rope solutions. Based on a historic 17-acre site in Birmingham, the Group comprises Webster & Horsfall, known for its high-quality wire manufacturing, and Latch & Batchelor, specialising in premium wire ropes for global industries. The site has also evolved into Tyseley Energy Park (TEP), a pioneering hub for clean energy innovation. Building on the Group’s industrial heritage, TEP drives advancements in sustainable energy systems, low-carbon transport, and the development of cleantech businesses, positioning Birmingham at the heart of the green industrial revolution.

Community engagement and charity initiatives

At Webster & Horsfall Group, we are deeply committed to supporting our local community through various initiatives. We organise quarterly litter picks and community engagement events, bringing together businesses and residents to clean up Tyseley and Hay Mills. Our annual Iftar gatherings provide opportunities for cultural exchange and community bonding. Additionally, our staff actively participates in fundraising efforts for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust, raising £4,241 throughout 2024 to support this vital cause.

Through our involvement with the Coalition for Impact, we engage in community outreach to understand local needs and create spaces that serve those needs effectively. This collaboration allows us to tailor our efforts to the specific desires of our community, ensuring that our initiatives have a meaningful and lasting impact.

These combined efforts reflect our dedication to fostering a vibrant and supportive community, aligning with our core values of responsibility and engagement.

Our mission

Our mission is to build on our heritage, empowering and inspiring innovation through products, solutions, and collaborations. We aim to foster sustainable development and environmental stewardship, driving positive impact for Birmingham and beyond, while securing the future of Webster & Horsfall as a family enterprise for generations to come.

Arthur Lockwood’s artwork gallery

The history of local firm Webster & Horsfall is told through archive material, watercolours by Arthur Lockwood and objects from our Science and Industry collection.

Webster & Horsfall were responsible for manufacturing the wire for the first successful transatlantic cable in 1866.

The free exhibition tells the story of the local family business, based in Hay Mills, which has been at the heart of steel wire and rope manufacturing in Birmingham since 1720. The history of the company is told through Webster & Horsfall archival material and a selection of Birmingham’s collection of watercolours by Arthur Lockwood.
